You Can't Make This Stuff Up

For the second straight season Eddy Curry made it through media day unscathed and ready to recommit himself to becoming a serviceable NBA player. Unfortunately for the second straight season Eddy Curry didn’t make it through the first day of practice. Ten minutes into the first scrimmage of the new season Curry went down in a heap (when speaking of Eddy Curry the word heap really drives the point home) with a torn right plantaris. I’m not a doctor but from what I’ve read the right plantaris muscle doesn’t even exist in 60 percent of the population and the obscure injury is most commonly found in tennis players.

The prognosis is 3-5 days of rest. 3-5 days of inactivity for Eddy Curry? He lost 40lbs this off season but after this period of inactivity, I’m betting at least 10 of those lbs magically reappear. For most professional athletes missing 5 days of training camp isn’t that big of a deal but to Mr. Curry this injury is likely just the beginning to yet another disappointing season. Unlike the NFL and Major League Baseball training camp in the NBA lasts only a short period of a time and 5 days is the equivalent of a NFL player missing the entire pre season. Curry will miss all of training camp in Saratoga and is listed as doubtful for the pre season opener Sunday.

Having Eddy Curry as your starting center is just one big disappointment after another. For those non Knick fans I can best describe the disappointment to waking up early for work and flipping on TBS to catch an episode of Saved by the Bell only to find that instead of seeing the true cast your stuck watching an episode featuring Tori Scott. Staying on that subject what were the producers thinking when they decided to go that direction. I understand that Tiffani-Amber Thiessen and Elizabeth Berkley had left the show by that point but the best idea you could come up with was bringing in a rough around the edges biker girl. I mean how much money would you have had to offer Leah Remini (Stacey Carosi) to join the cast on a full time basis. Stacy Carosi transfers to Bayside and television magic ensues. To this day Zack Morris is still my hero but I can’t and won’t get over the fact that he went from dating Kelly Kapowski to Tori Scott.

Camp Notes

The starting lineup as of now looks like Chris Duhon, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Al Harrington, and David Lee. All things considered that’s probably the best starting 5 we can throw out there at this point. Having four players 6’8 and above on the court at the same time will definitely be a match up problem for other teams.

Every news article or blog entry you read about camp centers around Danilo Gallinari looking amazing. I’m a firm believer that he will become a superstar in this league. I’m so confident I’m going to predict he’ll average 18 ppg this season and slowly become the second most eligible bachelor in New York behind Derek Jeter.

Jordan Hill has proven he’ll be a project player and most likely won’t contribute much this season while Toney Douglas should get playing time immediately.
